I love it when aplan comes together

26.2

In every day life we usually plan our days or weeks out, wether that be what’s for tea or who’s picking the kids up from school.

You’re running/fitness journey should be no different. In fact it’s probably more important.

As we move into week 9 of our training plan for Manchester marathon it’s really struck me how hard this would have been had we just winged it !

The structure of a plan has not only been an increase in the miles we have been doing weekly but also incorporated separate hill sessions, speed sessions and recovery runs. Combined with rest days it’s really helps us as we strive for our first marathon.

It would be easy for us to just go out and pound endless miles out day after day, week after week, but at some point it would probably all come crashing down. And if it didn’t it would be pure luck more that anything else.

As we move forward this week we started with a speed session over 5 miles and on Thursday we will do something similar. Friday is 4 mile recovery and then rest day before 16 miles on Sunday.

I’m glad we chose to do this project together as it helps in so many different ways. Encouraging each other when we are on long runs and the other one is struggling a bit, or giving a little competition on the shorter faster sessions seems to work for us. No matter how you choose to do it though have a plan and follow it , and if you miss a session or have to juggle them to fit in with your busy life then so be it. Tomorrow’s another day.

Failure to plan and prepare may lead you to planning and preparing to fail.
